This clinical trial is testing the safety and effectiveness of the drug nivolumab in patients with head and neck cancer who have had surgery after receiving radiation therapy, with or without chemotherapy.

Program Overview

The aim of this study is to evaluate if nivolumab, a type of immunotherapy, is safe and effective when given to patients with head and neck cancer after they have undergone surgery to remove the cancer. These patients have previously been treated with radiation therapy, and possibly chemotherapy, to try to cure the cancer.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Previously received radiation therapy, with or without surgery and/or chemotherapy, and have had surgery to remove the cancer with the goal of curing it.
  • Have had pre-surgery scans, including chest imaging (preferably PET/CT) and neck CT with contrast. MRI of the neck is acceptable if contrast cannot be used.
  • Able to provide a sample of the cancer tissue from a previous biopsy or surgery.
  • Have good overall health and lab results.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Did not receive radiation therapy as part of previous treatment.
  • Have visible cancer remaining after surgery or had surgery only to relieve symptoms, not to cure the cancer.
  • Have nasopharyngeal or sinonasal cancer.
  • Have confirmed cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.
