The purpose of this study is to evaluate a new treatment option for early-stage kidney cancer using stereotactic radiation therapy, which is a non-invasive method. Unlike traditional treatments like surgery or other invasive techniques, this approach uses advanced technology to target and treat kidney tumors without making any incisions. The study will involve patients with small kidney tumors that have been confirmed as cancerous through a biopsy. Participants will receive the radiation treatment over 3 to 5 sessions within three weeks. The effectiveness of the treatment will be monitored through MRI scans and a follow-up biopsy one year later. The study will also track any side effects and the impact on kidney function.
Description
This clinical trial is exploring a new way to treat early-stage kidney cancer using a non-invasive method called stereotactic ablative body radiation therapy (SABR). Traditional treatments for kidney cancer usually involve surgery or other invasive techniques, but SABR offers a completely non-invasive alternative. Thanks to recent technological advancements, it's now possible to safely target and treat kidney tumors with precision.
In this study, patients with small kidney tumors that have been confirmed as cancerous through a biopsy will receive SABR treatment. The treatment involves delivering focused radiation to the tumor over 3 to 5 sessions, all completed within three weeks. After the treatment, the response will be evaluated using MRI scans and a second biopsy one year later. The study will also monitor any side effects and how the treatment affects kidney function.
Eligibility Criteria
Exclusion Criteria
- Have already received treatment for the kidney tumor being studied, such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA) or cryoablation.
- Have had previous radiation treatment to the abdomen.
- Have evidence of cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, unless they have been free of the disease for 3 or more years before joining the study (except for certain skin cancers and in-situ cancers).
- Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the radiation treatment.
