Study on ABBV-706 and Atezolizumab Compared to Standard Treatment for Newly Diagnosed Extensive Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer

Program Overview

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a fast-growing cancer that often spreads early to other parts of the body, such as the liver, bones, and brain. This study is testing a new drug, ABBV-706, combined with atezolizumab, to see if it is safe and effective compared to the usual treatment, which includes drugs like etoposide, carboplatin, and atezolizumab, with an optional drug called lurbinectedin. Participants will receive either the new drug combination or the standard treatment. The study will involve about 180 adults worldwide and will last up to 69.5 months. Participants will have regular hospital or clinic visits for check-ups, blood tests, and scans.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Diagnosed with extensive stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) that needs first-line treatment.
  • Have a performance status score of 0 or 1, meaning fully active or restricted in physically strenuous activity but ambulatory.
  • Have measurable cancer according to standard criteria.
  • If brain metastases are suspected, a CT or MRI scan of the brain must be done before joining the study.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Have received any treatment for limited stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC).
  • Have active or symptomatic cancer spread to the central nervous system (CNS).
  • Have a history of lung diseases like interstitial lung disease or pneumonitis that needed steroid treatment, or show signs of these conditions on a chest CT scan.
  • Have any serious health conditions that could affect participation in the study, and must have a life expectancy of at least 3 months.
