This study is investigating how two types of PET/CT scans, using Fluciclovine F18 and Ga68-PSMA, can help improve radiation treatment planning for patients with prostate cancer who have had surgery. These scans use special tracers that highlight cancer cells, allowing doctors to create detailed images of the cancer. The goal is to determine which tracer is more effective in guiding radiation therapy and improving patient outcomes.
Description
The main goals of this study are to see if advanced imaging techniques can improve the results of radiation therapy for prostate cancer patients who have had surgery. The study will look at how these imaging techniques can help doctors make better decisions about radiation treatment and adjust the areas that need to be treated.
Participants in the study will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will receive a PET/CT scan using Fluciclovine F18, while the other group will receive a scan using Ga68-PSMA. The scans will help doctors plan the best way to deliver radiation therapy.
After the study treatment, participants will have follow-up visits every six months for up to five years to monitor their health and the effectiveness of the treatment.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- Diagnosed with prostate adenocarcinoma and have had prostate surgery.
- Detectable levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA).
- Good overall health with a performance status score between 0 and 2.
- No signs of cancer spread to the bones or other parts of the body based on specific scans.
- Willing to undergo radiation therapy to the pelvic area.
Exclusion Criteria
- Cannot have radiation therapy due to certain health conditions like active inflammatory bowel disease or previous pelvic radiation.
- Unable to undergo the specific PET/CT scans used in the study.
- Evidence of cancer spread to other parts of the body based on imaging or biopsy.
- History of another invasive cancer unless disease-free for at least three years.
- Severe health issues such as recent heart problems, infections requiring IV antibiotics, or severe lung disease.
- Diagnosed with AIDS, as the treatments in this study may weaken the immune system further.
