Program Overview
The study is testing a treatment plan for patients with early-stage rectal cancer. It involves giving chemotherapy first, then performing a small surgery to remove the tumor, followed by additional chemotherapy and radiation. The goal is to see if this approach can effectively treat the cancer while preserving the rectum. Patients will undergo various tests before starting treatment, and their response to the initial chemotherapy will determine the next steps. Those who respond well will have the tumor surgically removed and receive further treatment. Patients will be closely monitored for several years to track their progress.
