Study on Using Lower Dose Radiation Therapy for B-Cell Lymphomas

Sponsor: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Sponsor score: 60

ClinicalTrials ID:NCT07029217

This clinical trial is exploring whether a very low dose of radiation therapy can effectively treat people with follicular lymphoma or marginal zone lymphoma, while causing fewer side effects compared to the standard radiation dose.

Patient Parameters

Program Overview

The purpose of this study is to determine if a very low dose of radiation therapy (VLDRT) can work as well as the standard dose in treating follicular lymphoma (FL) and marginal zone lymphoma (MZL). Researchers want to see if VLDRT can effectively target cancer in the affected area and prevent new lymphoma spots from forming. They will also compare the side effects of VLDRT with those of the standard radiation dose. Radiation therapy uses powerful energy beams to kill cancer cells, but standard doses can lead to short- and long-term side effects. VLDRT uses less radiation, which may result in fewer side effects while still being effective.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Diagnosed with follicular lymphoma or marginal zone lymphoma, based on specific medical classifications.
  • Have stage I or II lymphoma, meaning cancer is in one or more lymph node areas on the same side of the diaphragm.
  • Newly diagnosed or previously observed without any prior treatment for lymphoma.
  • If referred for localized gastric MALT lymphoma, must have a negative H. Pylori test within 6 months before starting radiation.
  • Aged 18 years or older.
  • Able to start radiation within 2 months of being selected for the study.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Have had radiation treatment to the area needing treatment.
  • Have follicular lymphoma grade 3B or follicular large B cell lymphoma.
  • Plan to receive other treatments, like systemic therapy or oral steroids, for lymphoma.
  • Have only skin-related indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma (iNHL).
  • Have had all cancer surgically removed.
  • Have a tumor 5 cm or larger in diameter.
  • Have any medical or psychiatric condition that makes participation in the study inappropriate.
