Program Overview
Glioblastoma is a fast-growing brain cancer that poses unique challenges for older adults. This study aims to find out if giving higher doses of radiation over a shorter period can improve treatment results for these patients. Participants will receive either the standard radiation dose or a higher dose over three weeks. The study will include initial screenings to check eligibility, regular visits for radiation treatment, and follow-up appointments to monitor symptoms and progress.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- Diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, confirmed by specific tests.
- Newly diagnosed, with surgery or biopsy done within the last 8 weeks.
- Aged 65 or older at the time of diagnosis.
- In good general health, able to perform daily activities with little or no assistance.
- Have normal blood, kidney, and liver function based on recent lab tests.
- Can take corticosteroids, but the dose must be stable or decreasing for at least 14 days before starting the study.
Exclusion Criteria
- Have had glioblastoma return after treatment.
- Have cancer that has spread to the spine or other distant areas.
- Have another active brain cancer needing treatment.
- Have another untreated or ongoing cancer that affects life expectancy.
- Have major health issues or mental health conditions that would interfere with treatment.
- Unable to give informed consent.
- Cannot undergo certain MRI scans due to allergies or other reasons.
- Have had previous radiation to the head, neck, or other areas that would overlap with the study treatment.
- Have received other cancer treatments for brain cancer before joining the study.
- Have a serious infection or other acute medical condition that would prevent receiving treatment.
