Program Overview

The purpose of this study is to evaluate a new technique for treating liver cancers using MRI-guided radiation therapy. This method allows doctors to adapt the treatment plan in real-time during a single session, potentially improving the precision and effectiveness of the therapy for patients with liver tumors.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Have a confirmed diagnosis of liver cancer, such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, or cancer that has spread to the liver. In some cases, a specific imaging score or criteria may be used to confirm HCC.
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Have a liver function status classified as Child-Pugh A.
  • Be in relatively good health with an ECOG performance status of 0, 1, or 2, meaning fully active or with some limitations but able to care for oneself.
  • Have a life expectancy of more than 6 months.
  • Women of childbearing potential must have a negative pregnancy test before starting the study.
  • Be able to understand and sign a written consent form.
  • May have had previous liver-directed treatments, except for radioembolization, if other criteria are met.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Have had previous treatment with radioembolization.
  • Have received chemotherapy or experimental drugs within one week before the radiation therapy.
  • Have had previous radiation therapy that overlaps with the area being treated in this study.
  • Be pregnant.
  • Have a condition that prevents having an MRI scan or cannot tolerate an MRI.
  • Have a pacemaker or other implanted heart device.
  • Have a tumor that extends into the stomach, intestines, or bowel.
  • Be unable to hold your breath for more than 15 seconds.
