Program Overview
The purpose of this study is to find out if using a special device to process blood stem cell transplants can lead to fewer complications for patients receiving transplants to treat blood cancers or disorders. The device, called the CliniMACS system, is being tested to see if it can improve the transplant process.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- Have a serious blood cancer or disorder that can be treated with a specific type of stem cell transplant, such as:
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in first remission, unless it has certain favorable genetic features.
- Secondary AML in first remission.
- AML in first relapse or second remission.
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) or Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) in remission but at high risk of returning, or in second remission.
- Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) not responding to certain medications or in advanced stages.
- Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL) that has not responded to initial treatment or has returned after remission, and is not suitable for other types of transplants.
- Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML).
- Be between 18 and 74 years old.
- Can be of any gender or ethnic background.
- Have a performance status score of at least 70%, indicating the ability to carry out daily activities.
- Have adequate heart, liver, kidney, and lung function as determined by specific medical tests.
- Be willing to participate in the study and sign an informed consent form.
Exclusion Criteria
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Have an active viral, bacterial, or fungal infection.
- Test positive for HIV or certain other viruses.
- Have leukemia that has spread to the central nervous system.
