ClinicalTrials ID:NCT06448286

This clinical trial is testing whether a new type of MRI scan can help surgeons remove more of the tumor in patients with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, compared to the standard MRI scans currently used.

Patient Parameters

Program Overview

The study is exploring a new MRI technique called pH weighted chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) MRI, which may help identify tumor areas that standard MRI scans miss. This could potentially allow surgeons to remove more of the tumor during surgery, improving treatment outcomes for patients with glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is a type of brain cancer that is usually treated with surgery, followed by radiation and chemotherapy. The trial will compare the effectiveness of surgeries guided by this new MRI technique to those guided by standard MRI scans.

Description

The main goal of this study is to see if using a new type of MRI scan during surgery can help remove more of the glioblastoma tumor. This new MRI technique, called pH weighted CEST MRI, might show parts of the tumor that standard MRI scans do not.

Patients in the study will be randomly assigned to one of two groups:

  • Group 1: Patients will have surgery using the standard MRI guidance. After surgery, they will receive the usual radiation therapy and take a chemotherapy pill called temozolomide for 6 weeks. They will also have follow-up MRI scans.

  • Group 2: Patients will have surgery using the new CEST MRI guidance. After surgery, they will also receive the usual radiation therapy and take temozolomide for 6 weeks, along with follow-up MRI scans.

After finishing the treatment, patients will have follow-up visits at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months to monitor their health and the effectiveness of the treatment.
