Study on Gene Therapy for Reducing Skin Cancer Recurrence in RDEB Patients

This clinical trial is exploring whether a gene therapy called BVEC can help prevent the return of skin cancer in patients with Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB) after cancer removal surgery. The goal is to improve the life expectancy of these patients by reducing cancer recurrence.

Program Overview
The purpose of this study is to determine if a gene therapy, known as BVEC, can help prevent the return of skin cancer in patients with Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB) after they have had squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) removed. By potentially normalizing the skin environment and reducing the chance of cancer coming back, this treatment could help increase the lifespan of people with RDEB.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- Diagnosed with generalized Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB) due to COL7A1 gene mutations.
- Have a confirmed case of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) through a biopsy.
- Able to understand the study and willing to sign a consent form.
- Living in the US and willing to use the gene therapy BVEC.
- Aged 18 years or older.
- Willing to use effective contraception during the study.
Exclusion Criteria
- Unable to travel to the study site for visits.
- Currently pregnant.
- Have squamous cell carcinoma that has spread to other parts of the body or are receiving systemic treatment for SCC.
