Study Comparing New Drug Combination with Standard Treatment for Extensive-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer

This clinical trial is testing a new drug combination, BMS-986489 with Nivolumab, alongside standard chemotherapy drugs carboplatin and etoposide, to see if it works better than the current standard treatment with Atezolizumab for patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.

Program Overview

The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness and safety of a new treatment combination, BMS-986489 (which includes Nivolumab), with the standard treatment of Atezolizumab, both combined with chemotherapy drugs carboplatin and etoposide. This is for patients who have extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) and are receiving their first treatment for this condition.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Must have a diagnosis of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC).
  • Must be healthy enough to perform daily activities with little or no assistance, as measured by a specific health scale (ECOG performance scale).
  • Must have at least one tumor that can be measured using imaging techniques like a CT scan or MRI, located outside the brain and nervous system.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Have already received certain treatments for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.
  • Have certain health conditions, such as cancer spread to the brain causing symptoms, specific lung or heart diseases, infections, autoimmune diseases, other cancers, or nerve damage known as peripheral sensory neuropathy.
  • Other specific criteria may apply.
