Program Overview

The aim of this study is to find out if lattice radiation therapy (LRT) can more effectively treat large tumors than the usual radiation therapy. LRT is a special type of radiation treatment that targets large tumors in a unique way.

Description

This study will take place at a single medical center and will involve 37 patients. All participants will receive lattice radiation therapy, which will be given in 5 sessions every other day. The main goals are to see how well this therapy works in shrinking tumors and to check for any side effects. The effectiveness of the treatment will be measured by how much the tumors shrink 60 days after treatment. Safety will be monitored at several points: 5 days, 15 days, 30 days, and 60 days after finishing the therapy. The study will also look at how this treatment affects the body's immune system.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Have a solid tumor that needs radiation treatment.
  • Have tumors that can be measured and are suitable for lattice therapy.
  • Tumors must be in a location that can be stabilized during treatment.
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Be in relatively good health with a performance status score of 2 or less.
  • Have a life expectancy of more than 3 months.
  • Agree to use effective birth control methods during the study and for 30 days after treatment.
  • Be able to understand and sign a consent form to participate in the study.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Currently receiving chemotherapy or other treatments that increase radiation sensitivity within 5 days before or after lattice therapy.
  • Have blood cancers like lymphoma or leukemia, or cancers in the brain or spinal cord.
  • Have conditions that make them more sensitive to radiation.
  • Have known reasons that prevent them from receiving radiation therapy.
  • Have uncontrolled illnesses.
  • Be pregnant.
