Program Overview

This study is testing a new way to detect liver cancer early using a special imaging technique. The technique involves a radioactive tracer called 68Ga-PSMA, which attaches to a protein found on liver cancer cells. This tracer is used with PET/MRI or PET/CT scans to create detailed images of the liver. The goal is to see if this method can help doctors diagnose liver cancer more accurately and manage it better in the future.

Description

The main goals of this study are to see if using 68Ga-PSMA with PET/MRI scans can effectively detect and stage liver cancer, and to compare its performance with standard imaging methods. Researchers also want to understand how the imaging results relate to the actual cancer tissue and specific markers found in liver cancer.

In this study, participants will receive an injection of 68Ga-PSMA, which will circulate in their body for about 90 minutes. After that, they will undergo either a PET/MRI scan for about 60 minutes or a PET/CT scan for about 30 minutes to capture images of their liver.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Have a diagnosis of liver cancer confirmed by imaging or biopsy.
  • May undergo liver surgery, transplant, or local treatments like ablation or embolization.
  • Have not received prior treatment for the current liver cancer lesion.
  • Be 18 years or older and able to provide written consent.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Need emergency surgery for a ruptured or bleeding liver cancer.
  • Have high bilirubin levels, which affect MRI contrast use.
  • Have severe kidney issues or are on dialysis.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Exceed the weight/size limits of the imaging machines.
  • Have allergies to certain MRI contrast agents.
  • Have claustrophobia.
  • Have certain implanted medical devices or metal in the body that prevent MRI use.
  • Cannot undergo MRI for other medical reasons, but may still participate using PET/CT.
