Program Overview

The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether the combination of tocilizumab and atezolizumab can safely and effectively treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in adults whose cancer has not responded to first-line immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Have advanced non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that is either Stage IV or has returned after initial treatment aimed at curing the disease.
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Have previously received at least one type of cancer treatment.
  • Have been treated with an immune checkpoint inhibitor as part of the most recent therapy before joining this study.
  • Be in relatively good health, with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status score between 0 and 2, indicating full activity or some restriction in physically strenuous activity but ambulatory.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Have a specific genetic mutation in the cancer that can be treated with targeted therapy.
  • Have experienced severe side effects (greater than grade 3) from previous immunotherapy.
  • Have another active cancer that requires ongoing treatment.
  • Have untreated or worsening cancer that has spread to the brain.
  • Have cancer that has spread to the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord (leptomeningeal disease).
  • Have uncontrolled pain related to the tumor.
  • Have a history of autoimmune diseases or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
