This study is testing a new type of MRI scan to see if it can be safely used to look at prostate cancer in men. There is no randomization or placebo involved, meaning all participants will receive the same type of scan.

Program Overview

The purpose of this study is to test a new MRI technique that uses a special substance called hyperpolarized 13C-pyruvate to see if it can safely and effectively examine prostate cancer in men. This study does not involve any randomization or placebo treatments, meaning all participants will undergo the same MRI scan. The goal is to determine if this new type of MRI can provide useful information about prostate cancer.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Men aged 40 to 80 years old.
  • Have a clinical suspicion or history of prostate cancer, indicated by:
    • PSA level greater than 4 ng/ml.
    • Abnormal results from a digital rectal exam (DRE).
    • A previous diagnosis of prostate cancer from earlier tests.
  • Planning to have either an MRI-targeted biopsy or surgery to remove the prostate as part of their cancer evaluation or treatment.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Unable to have an MRI scan.
  • Unable to receive the contrast dye used in MRI scans according to hospital guidelines.
