Program Overview

The purpose of this study is to determine if treating early stage estrogen-rich breast cancer with hormone therapy before surgery can lead to better surgical results, specifically by increasing the likelihood of removing the entire tumor during surgery.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Diagnosed with invasive breast cancer at stage I or II.
  • No signs of cancer in the lymph nodes.
  • Eligible for hormone therapy as determined by a medical oncologist.
  • Must be a postmenopausal woman.
  • Able to understand and willing to sign a consent form to participate in the study.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Cancer does not have progesterone receptors.
  • Tumor is high grade.
  • Have another type of cancer at the same time.
  • Taking other experimental treatments that could affect the study results.
  • History of allergic reactions to medications similar to Anastrozole, Letrozole, Exemestane, Tamoxifen, or other study drugs.
  • Have uncontrolled health issues.
  • Have medical, psychiatric, or social conditions that would make it difficult to follow the study requirements.
