Program Overview

This study is investigating how well a treatment called transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) works for patients with non-small cell lung cancer. TACE is a minimally invasive procedure where chemotherapy is injected directly into an artery that feeds the tumor, followed by blocking the artery. This method traps the chemotherapy inside the tumor and cuts off its blood supply, exposing the tumor to a high dose of chemotherapy while depriving it of nutrients and oxygen. The goal is to control or stop the growth of lung tumors.

Description

The main goal of this study is to determine the safety and effectiveness of TACE in treating lung cancer that cannot be removed by surgery or treated with other methods. Patients will receive TACE using a combination of Lipiodol, mitomycin, and Embospheres. The response to the treatment will be monitored using CT scans to see if the tumors stop growing or shrink.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Have non-small cell lung cancer at any stage, with tumors in the lungs, airways, chest lining, or chest area that are growing despite treatment or cannot be treated with surgery or other methods.
  • The majority of the cancer must be in the chest area.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Have a performance status score greater than 2, indicating significant difficulty in daily activities.
  • Have oxygen levels below 92% when breathing room air.
  • Have a lung function test result (FEV1) below 60%.
  • Have no measurable tumors that can be treated.
  • Have a life expectancy of less than 6 months.
  • Have high blood pressure in the lungs or recent blood clots in the lungs.
  • Have certain lung conditions like arteriovenous malformations or active infections.
  • Have severe heart failure or specific heart conditions.
  • Have severe kidney problems.
  • Be pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Have mental health issues that affect understanding or following the study.
  • Have low blood counts or certain blood clotting issues.
  • Have thyroid problems or allergies to the study drugs.
  • Have any condition that might interfere with the study or affect safety.
