Description
This study is investigating whether the drug bethanechol can be used alongside chemotherapy drugs gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel to help prevent pancreatic cancer from returning after surgery. In animal studies, bethanechol has shown potential in slowing down cancer growth and spread. While gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel are already approved for treating metastatic pancreatic cancer, the use of bethanechol in this study is experimental. The researchers aim to demonstrate that bethanechol is easy for patients to tolerate and that it can slow down the growth of cancer cells. They believe that bethanechol may work by affecting nerve signals within tumors, which could lead to slower cancer growth and better surgical outcomes.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- Diagnosed with Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma.
- Planning to receive chemotherapy before surgery.
- Have tissue samples available for testing specific markers.
- Able to take oral medications and follow study procedures.
Exclusion Criteria
- Cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
- Have a blockage in the digestive system.
- Have a slow heart rate (below 55 beats per minute) or low blood pressure (below 90 systolic).
- Taking medications that affect nerve signals, like acetylcholinesterase inhibitors.
- Have certain medical conditions such as overactive thyroid, heart disease, seizure disorder, or stomach ulcers.
