The stem cells are processed with a device that helps select only the donor stem cells, reducing the risk of complications like graft-versus-host disease, where donor cells attack the recipient's body. This method aims to make transplants safer for patients with cancer or other disorders.
Description
The main goal of this study is to provide a source of specially selected stem cells for patients undergoing bone marrow transplants. These patients have either cancer or other serious disorders and do not have a perfectly matched donor. The study uses a new system to select the donor stem cells, which may help reduce the risk of complications like graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
The study will monitor the safety of these selected stem cells by looking at any side effects, how well the new cells grow in the body, and the occurrence of GVHD. It will also track the patients' survival and health over time.
Donor stem cells are processed using a special system to select the right cells. Patients receive a standard treatment to prepare for the transplant, followed by the infusion of these selected stem cells. After the transplant, patients receive standard care to prevent GVHD.
Patients are closely monitored after the transplant, with regular check-ups for the first year and annually after that.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- Patients with cancer or other serious disorders that can benefit from a stem cell transplant.
- Patients who do not have a perfectly matched donor but have a partially matched related donor or a closely matched unrelated donor.
- Donors must be able to undergo a procedure to collect stem cells and meet health criteria for donation.
- Recipients must be in good health, free of major infections, and not pregnant if they are of childbearing age.
- Patients or their guardians must be able to provide informed consent for the treatment.
Exclusion Criteria
- Patients who do not meet the health criteria for a bone marrow transplant.
- Presence of antibodies that could cause rejection between donor and recipient.
- Known allergy to certain proteins used in the treatment process.
